What is Two Pages Double Spaced?

Written Nov 2020

I am not a creature of habit. I need reasons to do things.

I took a class my Senior fall called Genre of the Sentence with Verlyn Klinkenborg. We were instructed to write “two pages, on a subject of our choosing.” I was introduced to a new type of writing work, one that doesn’t involve putting words on paper. I learned to notice, ask questions.

What’s happening outside and inside? Inside, being one’s impenetrable brain. All of a sudden, I had a lot of things to say.

An entire semester has passed but I feel as if I’ve only taken my first baby steps.

I made this Substack to give myself a reason to continue writing. The rough plan is to write two pages, double spaced, every week. The due date is Sunday. The writing will be predominantly creative nonfiction but I hold no promises.

Feel free to follow along or simply stop by once in awhile. The hope is that you’ll find some sentences that strike your fancy.

Writing/Book Exchange

I’ve had the profound privilege of taking creative writing classes and having friends to read my work. But I also remember the isolating feeling of having none of that and how much harder it was to write then. I’ve been thinking about ways I can make this space more of a community rather than a soapbox. I am by no means a qualified teacher of writing, so this is very much a community driven idea :)

If you’re interested in workshopping writing together or exchanging favorite books, send me an email at ffeliciachang@gmail.com! I’d love to meet over a good ol’ zoom call or in person in the Bay Area!
