Welcome to Two Pages Double Spaced.
My name is Felicia but I go by Fels on Twitter because it looks cheeky. Don’t call me Fels in real life. I don’t like the way it sounds.
I’m in my senior year at Yale, and I’m nearing the end of one of my most transformative classes – Genre of the Sentence with Verlyn Klinkenborg.
The structure of the class is simple: submit two pages, double spaced every week. Your piece is critiqued and sent back to you. Bad sentences emerge from the page like mold. You didn’t think there was so much of it. Slowly, the sentences get better (and shorter).
I am not a creature of habit. I need reasons to do things. I’m scared that once this class ends, I’ll stop writing two pages of double spaced sentences.
I made a Substack to give myself a reason. Come along for the ride, and you’ll get to point out all the bad sentences I’m making (or the good ones if you’re feeling generous.)
